These Giant Smarties Cookies are extra chewy in the center and slightly crunchy around the edges. They have a heavenly buttery taste and along with all the smarties inside, every single bite is absolutely scrumptious. If you are into these types of cookies, you need to give this recipe a try.
Chilling the dough is key to make these amazing cookies, so do not skip this step and plan on at least 2 hours of chilling in the fridge. Otherwise, the dough will spread too much in the oven and you’ll end up with thin cookies.
Tools & Equipment
- 2 large baking sheets
- 2 silicone baking mats or parchment paper
- Ice cream scoop
- Large bowl
- Medium bowl
- Plastic wrap
- Silicone spatula
- Stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment
- Whisk
- Wire rack
Recipe Tips
Make Ahead: You can make the dough up to 4 days in advance. Wrap the dough in plastic and place in the fridge until ready to use. If you chill the dough for more than 3 hours, let it sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before you continue with the recipe, as the dough will be quite hard.
Baking Sheet: Use 2 baking sheets, because it makes it easier and reduces the waiting time. Do not place the dough balls on a warm baking sheet. If you only have 1 baking sheet, let it cool between batches. Otherwise, the dough will spread too much too quickly.
Silicone Baking Mat: I like to use silicone baking mats for baking cookies. This is not mandatory, you can use parchment paper if you do not have a baking mat.
Ingredients for Giant Smarties Cookies

Step by Step Guide – How to Make Giant Smarties Cookies
Whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. In the bowl of a stand mixer beat the butter on medium until smooth, for about 1 minute.

Add the brown and granulated sugar and beat on medium until creamy, for about 2 minutes. Then add the eggs and vanilla extract and beat on high until well combined, for about 1 minute.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix on low speed until combined. With the mixer running on low, add the smarties. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F. Line 2 large baking sheets with silicone baking mats or parchment. Roll dough balls of about 75g dough per cookie and place 10cm/4-inch apart on the baking sheet.

Bake for 16-18 minutes or until lightly browned on the sides. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before placing on a wire rack to cool completely.

Storage: The cookies will keep fresh in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
